Origins and formation

The first written records for the history of France appear in the Iron Age. What is now France made up the bulk of the region the Romans called Gaul. Greek writers noted three main groups: the Gauls, the Aquitani, and the Belgae. Over the first millennium BC, Greeks, Romans, and Carthaginians planted colonies on the Mediterranean coast. The Roman Republic annexed southern Gaul in the late second century BC, and Caesar’s legions conquered the rest in the Gallic Wars. A civilization named France in a game that also has a separate Gaul is already a choice about where the story starts.1

Defining periods

Catherine de Medici was born on 13 April 1519 and died on 5 January 1589. She was queen of France from 1547 to 1559 by marriage to Henry II, and the mother of Francis II, Charles IX, and Henry III. The years of her sons’ reigns have been called her age because her influence on politics was extensive and uneven. She was born in Florence to the Medici family. In 1533 she was still a girl in an Italian marriage that the lead breaks off before describing in full. Her French power belongs to the sixteenth century. It is not Caesar’s conquest of Gaul, and it is not the revolution of 1789 that the published Civilization VII French Empire essay takes as a later frame.1 2

Leaders

The New Frontier Pass page says that Magnificence Catherine can use luxuries to overwhelm the world with culture and tourism, and that each persona pack is a new take on a favorite leader. The Chinese page uses its own wording for that Catherine and pairs her with Rough Rider Teddy. The update notes, in English and Chinese, name Eleanor as a leader of both England and France and say her name was aligned with other dual-civilization leaders. Those are the official names retrieved here. The classic Catherine is the historical person in this essay. The pages call the new portrait Magnificence. They do not reprint a separate launch title beyond that contrast.3 4 5

Eleanor’s pack is not stated on the update note that only corrects her name. This essay leaves that pack unconfirmed. She is one person attached to two civilizations. France and England do not become one kingdom because a leader entry can switch between them.4 5

Legacy and interpretation

France’s legacy in the opening lead is a Roman province that later becomes a kingdom. Catherine’s legacy is a Valois regency, not the whole of that kingdom. The published Civilization VII essay is the revolutionary and imperial state, with the tower and the Third Republic. This page stops earlier, at the queen mother, and points to that essay for the later centuries. Gaul, published here as its own Civ6 civilization in the inventory, is the Iron Age neighbor, not a persona of Catherine.1 2

A closer look

The persona is described as a way to spend luxuries on culture and tourism. That is a design sentence. It is not an account of the Medici bank or of the French wars of religion. This essay does not copy any yield. The name Magnificence is the page’s label for the new take.3

In Civilization VI

The civilization’s pack stays unconfirmed. Magnificence Catherine is New Frontier Pass. Eleanor is named without a pack. The published French Empire essay is the later counterpart. Keep Roman Gaul, Catherine’s reign of 1547 to 1559, her death in 1589, and 1789 apart.1 2 3 4
