Origins and formation

Sumer is the earliest known civilization, in southern Mesopotamia, now south-central Iraq. It emerged in the Chalcolithic and early Bronze Ages, between the 5th and 4th millennia BC. Like Elam, it is one of the cradles of civilization. Farmers along the Tigris and Euphrates grew a surplus of grain. A hero of a later epic is not that whole emergence. The published Civilization VII Gilgamesh essay is the person. This page is the civilization that holds him in the game.1 2

Defining periods

Gilgamesh, originally the Sumerian Bilgames, is the hero of the Epic of Gilgamesh, written in Akkadian in the late 2nd millennium BC. He was possibly a historical king of the Sumerian city-state of Uruk and was later deified. His rule, if historical, probably fell in the Early Dynastic Period, about 2900 to 2350 BC, though he became a major figure in Sumerian legend during the Third Dynasty. The epic is later than those poems. The Civ7 essay says his historicity as king is largely lost and still treats the epic as the oldest hero. This page does not turn the poem into a reign with a single year.2

Leaders

The Chinese update notes head a balance block with the ordinary name for Sumer and name an encounter with Enkidu. They do not print Gilgamesh. The brackets name both Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm as rulesets for the change. A bracket that names two expansions is not a sentence that says which pack adds the civilization, so his pack stays unconfirmed. His Chinese name in this essay is the standard reading, the same characters the Civ7 essay uses, and it was not copied from the 2K pages retrieved here. This essay does not copy the combat figure.3 4

Legacy and interpretation

Sumer’s legacy in the lead is the earliest known civilization and a farming surplus. Gilgamesh’s legacy is a possible Uruk king and a much later epic. The Civ7 essay separates the Sumerian poems, the Old Babylonian copies, and the standard epic. This page points there for the hero and keeps the cities of Sumer from shrinking to one friendship.1 2

A closer look

The update’s Sumer line changes strength when fighting beside an ally. It is a balance number. This essay does not copy it. An ally bonus is not a tablet from Uruk.4

In Civilization VI

The pack stays unconfirmed. The published Gilgamesh essay is the person. Keep the 5th millennium, the possible early dynastic reign, and the late 2nd-millennium epic apart. Bilgames is the older Sumerian form of the name. Uruk is one city-state. The epic’s Akkadian text is later than the reign it may remember. The published Gilgamesh essay is where the poems are separated. This page does not repeat that separation as a law code or a king list.1 2 4
