Maya
A civilization of many cities, and Lady Six Sky of Naranjo, who died in 741.
Lady Six Sky died in 741 after years at Naranjo from 682. The Maya and Gran Colombia Pack names her. The civilization is New Frontier Pass.
Origins and formation
The Maya civilization was a Mesoamerican civilization from antiquity to the early modern period. It is known for temples, a script, art, architecture, mathematics, a calendar, and astronomy. The script is the most developed writing system in the pre-Columbian Americas. It grew in the Maya region: southeastern Mexico, all of Guatemala and Belize, and the western portions of Honduras and El Salvador. Descendants today number well over six million. A queen who dies in 741 is one person inside that long history. She is not the whole civilization.2
Defining periods
Lady Six Sky, also called Lady Wac Chanil Ahau or Wak Chanil Ajaw, died in 741. The ancient reading of her name is contested, so scholars usually use the English translation of a readable portion. She was a Maya queen of Naranjo, born in Dos Pilas. She lived in Naranjo from 682 until her death, or shortly before it. She likely served as the city’s ruler. Monuments such as Stela 24 suggest she was never formally recognized as such, because she kept using the emblem glyph of Dos Pilas. The published Civilization VII Maya essay is this civilization, and it keeps Tikal from standing in for every city. This page does not replace it.1 2
Leaders
The Maya and Gran Colombia Pack, one of six in the New Frontier Pass, introduces Lady Six Sky as the leader of the Maya and Simon Bolivar as the leader of Gran Colombia. The Chinese page uses the ordinary names for both the civilization and the queen. The update notes also head a balance block with the ordinary Chinese name and name an ability and an observatory. They do not add a second Maya leader. This essay does not copy the yields. A farm bonus is not the year 682.3 4
Legacy and interpretation
The civilization’s legacy in the lead is a script, a calendar, and a region of many cities. Lady Six Sky’s legacy is a possible rule at Naranjo that the monuments may not have formalized, and a death in 741. Treating her as the founder of the script, or as Tikal, would hide Dos Pilas and the contested title. The Civ7 essay is the place to read the wider lowlands.1 2
A closer look
The pack page describes farms, a ranged unit, and an observatory. Those are design sentences. This essay does not copy the bonuses. An observatory is not Stela 24.3
In Civilization VI
The civilization is New Frontier Pass, because the pack page says it is one of the six packs in that pass. The published Civilization VII essay is the counterpart. Keep the long civilization, the birth at Dos Pilas, the years at Naranjo from 682, and the death in 741 apart. Dos Pilas and Naranjo are two cities in this lead, not one capital.1 2 3
