Kongo
A Central African kingdom, and Nzinga of Ndongo and Matamba, who died on 17 December 1663.
Nzinga ruled Ndongo from 1624 and Matamba from 1631 until 17 December 1663. The notes call her a Kongo leader. Her pack stays unconfirmed.
Origins and formation
The Kingdom of Kongo was a kingdom in Central Africa, in present-day northern Angola, the western Democratic Republic of the Congo, southern Gabon, and the Republic of the Congo. At its greatest extent it reached from the Atlantic to the Kwango River and from the Congo River to the Kwanza. It was made of several core provinces. Nzinga Mbande ruled the Ambundu kingdoms of Ndongo and Matamba, in present-day northern Angola. Those are not the same throne as Kongo, even though the game uses Kongo as the civilization name.1 2
Defining periods
Nzinga Mbande, also called Ngola Njinga by those she ruled, lived from about 1583 to 17 December 1663. She was queen of Ndongo from 1624 to 1663 and of Matamba from 1631 to 1663. She was born into Ndongo’s ruling family. Her grandfather Ngola Kilombo Kia Kasenda was king, and her father succeeded him. She received military and political training as a child and showed an aptitude for defusing crises as an ambassador. The lead breaks off there. This essay does not invent the later wars. No Civilization VII essay covers these kingdoms, so none is linked.1
Leaders
The Leader Pass names Queen Mbande Nzinga. The Chinese update notes call her a leader of Kongo and use a different order of the names, the same order as the console announcement. This essay records both official forms and does not treat them as two queens. Mvemba a Nzinga’s Chinese name is the standard reading. The retrieved pages used here do not print him, so his pack stays unconfirmed with the civilization. Her persona is Leader Pass. That sales rule does not by itself say which pack adds the civilization. This essay does not copy the combat figure attached to the notes.3 4
Legacy and interpretation
Kongo’s legacy in the lead is a kingdom between those rivers. Nzinga’s legacy is Ndongo and Matamba, and a death on 17 December 1663. Putting her face on Kongo joins a queen of two Ambundu kingdoms to a larger state the biography does not make her found. The dates of 1624 and 1631 are two accessions, not one coronation in Kongo.1 2
A closer look
The update’s line about her changes a settlement preference. It is a balance note. This essay does not copy it. A preference is not Matamba.4
In Civilization VI
The civilization’s pack stays unconfirmed. Her persona is Leader Pass, and the two Chinese spellings stay on record. Mvemba’s pack is unconfirmed. Keep about 1583, Ndongo from 1624, Matamba from 1631, and 17 December 1663 apart from the wider Kongo kingdom. Her grandfather and her father held Ndongo before her. The Atlantic, the Kwango, the Congo, and the Kwanza bound the larger kingdom in the other lead. Two accessions in Angola are not a coronation on the Congo River. The two Chinese spellings name one queen. Mvemba remains unnamed on the pages used here.1 2 3 4
