Scotland
A kingdom traditionally founded in 843, and Robert I, king from 1306 to 1329.
The Kingdom of Scotland is traditionally dated from 843. Robert I ruled from 1306 to 1329. The official hub places both in Rise and Fall.
Origins and formation
The Kingdom of Scotland was a sovereign state in northwest Europe, traditionally said to have been founded in 843. Its borders moved, but it came to occupy the northern third of Great Britain and shared a land border to the south with the Kingdom of England. In the Middle Ages it fought England at intervals, most prominently in the Wars of Scottish Independence, and kept its independence. A game that also has England is looking at two kingdoms on one island. The traditional year 843 is not the Bruce’s coronation.1
Defining periods
Robert I, popularly Robert the Bruce, was born on 11 July 1274 and died on 7 June 1329. He was King of Scots from 1306 until his death. He led Scotland in the First War of Scottish Independence against England and is regarded there as a national hero. He was a fourth-great-grandson of David I. The reign restores an independent kingdom in the biography’s wording. It does not found the kingdom in 843, and it does not dissolve it. The union that ends the kingdom as a separate state comes much later and is not this lead’s subject.1 2
Leaders
The English hub names Robert the Bruce’s Scotland as one of the civilizations that enter with Rise and Fall, beside Genghis Khan’s Mongolia, plus six others it does not list. The Chinese hub says Robert I’s Scotland in the same sentence. That Chinese royal numeral is the official page’s form. The English popular name and the Chinese royal style are both on official pages. This essay uses both and does not treat them as two men. No second Scottish leader appears on the Leader Pass pages retrieved here.3 4
Legacy and interpretation
Scotland’s legacy in the lead is a kingdom that shares an island with England and keeps a separate crown through the independence wars. Robert’s legacy is that restoration and the hero’s reputation. The published Civilization VII England essay is the southern kingdom, from 927 to 1707, when the two kingdoms form Great Britain. This page does not annex Scotland into that essay. The six unnamed Rise and Fall civilizations are a gap in the hub, not extra Scottish kings.1 2 3
A closer look
The hub’s sentence is a roster announcement, not a battle narrative. It does not describe a battle or give a yield. This essay does not add either. Robert was born on 11 July 1274. The biography’s coronation year is 1306, and the death is 7 June 1329. The traditional founding in 843 sits centuries earlier. A pack name is not a chronicle of 1306.2 3
In Civilization VI
The civilization is Rise and Fall because the hub names it there. The published England essay in the Civilization VII codex is the neighbor, not the same state. Keep 843, the coronation of 1306, and the death on 7 June 1329 apart.1 2 3
